Week 16 Thursday November, 26th --Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Feast

Since this was another vacation weekend, I decided to feauture our Thanksgiving meal instead of what was served on Sunday. Being busy helping with dinner I forgot to take more pictures of the preparation, But I did manage to chronicle some highlights from the big day.

This is Alexis, my adorable and tech savy niece trying to teach my mom (her grandma) how to Scype.

The Sacrificical Bird

Turkey, Carrot Casserole, Broccoli Salad, Stuffing, Rolls, Yams, Cheesy Potatoes, And a family classic-- The Cranberry Jello Salad. Mmmm Mmmm!

I love our Thanksgiving meal. While it can be tiring for everyone involved, I think we all agree when we are stuffing our faces, it was all worth it. Especially when we are warming up left overs the next day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Jordan????
Jordan has become quite an expert at his disappearing act from the table.

JJ and I sitting down to stuff our bellies. Somehow the commemorative feast of Thanksgiving has been turned into an excuse for gluttony.

Alexis and Isabel are sister cousins

The Four Musketeers

They have so much fun together. Although they miss their other cousins Maddie, Nicholas, and Audrey! It's just not the same with out them. We missed you guys, and Aunt Nichole and Uncle David, and of couse we will forever miss our late Uncle Greg!

We had a great time with the family and I have been reflecting on things that I love about my family. Here are 10 things of many that I love about our visits together. In no particular order.

1. I love our long chats/ occasional debates. I love how they can sometimes get heated, given our passionate natures, but we are always friends afterwards and agree to disagree.

2. I have grown to love that it often takes us until 2pm to all get out of the house together to go to the beach, but once we do make it, we stay a long time and agree it was worth the effort.

3. I love that most of the time we look like the tourists at the beach with all our gear and food.

4. I love how it only takes one person (usually dad) to snitch a piece of bacon before all bets are off and everyone feels entitles to snitch. We can empty a plate as fast as clearing the floor playing spoons.

5. I love how we can end up consumeing an entire dessert simply by "evening" out the edges.

6. I love that no matter how insurmountable the task of fitting the left overs into the already packed fridge seems, we always manage to do it. It's a miracle every year and I think the reason I have good packing skils. In fact through a team effort this year, JJ and I managed to fit all of our luggage and Christmas presents inside our van to take home. This included Isabel's large bike, and Laney's Easel and without dismantaling them. Believe it or not, we still had room for our children :)! I was pretty impressed.

7. I love our appreciation for a good movie. It wouldn't be a family vacation without atleast one trip to the cinema. By the way we haven't watched What's Up Doc in awhile-- a definite family classic!

8. I love watching my kids being loved and loving their aunts, uncles, and grandparents. It's wonderful to see the next generation able to share in the relationships that I have enjoyed throughout my life.

9. I love the more I get to know and understand my family members the more I learn and understand about myself.

10. I love that it takes at least a half-hour in good-byes and hugs to leave. There are the hugs in the house as we are leaving. Then the hugs as we are walked to our car. Inevitably we start talking again. After which we must hug again because all previous hugs have expired. Then we wave and slowly back out as we say good-bye again. I am always sad to see the faces of my family fade away in the rear view mirror and wish we lived closer to each other!

All these and more I love about our family, though some things may be frustrating in the moment they are our funny quirks that make us--us!
